Take the beast out on a pork sandwich eating competition
Upon my arrival, I came across a painter who was drawing the Jurassic Pork image in the front, the patrons were very intrigued to find out what it was all about, including myself. The tables were all set up so nicely in a square with two bottles of sauce placed on top - Ceratops Cider and the Megaraptor Mustard. I guessed they would be my tasting condiments for the sandwich.
At 7 o'clock, they all arrived together with invited guests on the day. It looked like a team of Tough Guy competitors - there were no lady contestants. Some contestants looked very fit and healthy, I was actually a bit worried how they would be after the competition.
The party kicked out with a Strong Man Show. He showed us his extraordinary strength by ripping a thick phone book into half and nailing a wooden board single-handedly. I had to hide my eyes when he screwed two long nails into his nostrils! It was a really dramatic way to launch the competition.
Around 7:30pm, we were all hungrily waiting for the competition get started. As we cheered, the waitress brought out the giant pork sandwich, which weighted 1.6kg and had two bunny ears made out of bacon. The organiser announced the rules of the competition to all the contestants; they had 40 minutes to finish everything on their plates - the giant sandwich with fried potato chips.
For the guests, we had a quarter size serving. For the first 20 minutes, I could see the contestants enjoying their meals. They even had time to crack a joke or two among themselves. As time passed by, they eventually focused silently on finishing off their jumbo-sized sandwiches. Loosening the belts, standing up shaking their bodies, they started to use all their tricks to fit more food in. Only one contestant among the crowd remained calm - it was the Strong Man. When he put the last bacon ear into his mouth, the crowd waited with baited breath for his victory. He was the only man who finished everything on the plate!
The competition wrapped up with a line of liquor tasting. A triumph shot for the brave hearts and their stuffed bellies. The winner of the competition was rewarded with a Jurassic Pork T-shirt and the rest of the contestants were lined up to get their leftovers weighed. They were happy to pose before the camera and get their photos posted on the restaurant's Wall of Shame. That was a real joke to me.
When the cool weather starts to kick in, don't forget to treat your belly with a famous Jurassic Pork Sandwich at the Essen Restaurant when you pass by Ultimo. For more upcoming events, please visit their official website.
