Have a smartphone, tablet or iPad? Then you have dinosaurs.
Who said Perth wasn't exciting? Thanks to the creative minds over at Scitech you can find dinosaurs scattered throughout the CBD all through August and September. However, you wont be able to see them using just your eyes. You're going to need the help of a smartphone or tablet computer, and an application called Layar.
Before you download the application, be sure that you have a device that's supported. Below are the devices that will work with the application: iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (running OS 3.1 or later)
Android devices (running v1.5 or later) Nokia C7, C6-01, E7, N8 and N97 (running latest firmware)
So after you've checked the compatibility of your smartphone or tablet computer, you'll need to download the application I mentioned just before. You can download Layar by clicking here. Once you've got Layar, just download the Jurassic Science Week 'Layar' from within the application, and you're ready to do some major dinosaur hunting.
Now you're all kited out, all you have to do is head to Murray Street or Hay Street Mall and keep your eyes open for the big orange dinosaur footprints on the ground. Once there, fire up the Layar application on your device and let it work its magic. In no time you should see an 'augmented' view of your environment on your phone which includes some very cool looking hidden dinosaurs.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your smartphone or tablet and start hunting for some dinosaurs now. I may have just turned 20, but even I find opportunities to go dinosaur hunting extremely exciting.
