I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

Junk is an energetic joyful portrayal of youthful imagination. The show has a running time of 55 minutes and is suitable for all ages. Young and old alike will be astounded at the feats of strength and athletic abilities of the talented young cast.

In 2019, the Flying Fruit Fly Circus is celebrating 40 years of "ordinary kids doing extraordinary things" with an anniversary tour. The Flying Fruit Fly Circus has grown from a local project for the school kids of Albury Wodonga into an institution of world renown. Children aged from 8 to 19 are schooled in circus skills and contemporary performance and as a group develop group pride, self-confidence and achievement whilst entertaining the public.

In Junk, 17 performers ranging in age from 10 to 17 years of age take to the stage performing a variety of tumbling, acrobatic and gymnastic acts. The performance was developed after discussions with senior residents of a local nursing home about their childhood experiences of play.

Junkyard objects are are reimagined into toys and musical instruments as the children of the 1940s are free to play, socialise and dream without the constraints of adult supervision/protection and the distractions of the digital world. The performance is full of gentle humour and the lively 1949s soundtrack is matched by the energy of the performers. The hard and fast acts are balanced with periods of lyrical beauty such as aerial ballet-like duet and the shadow puppetry piece.

The children sitting near me were enthralled and amazed by the abilities and circus skills of people just like them. I am sure many of the audience would be practising juggling and acrobatics over the holidays as well as asking their parents for a unicycle or trampoline in order to fulfil their circus dreams.

Junk by the Flying Fruit Fly Circus is an exuberant celebration of youth.
