Did you ever imagine what it would have been like to win one of Willy Wonka's golden tickets? Well wonder no more - you can experience the wonder of a real-life chocolate factory in Junee, NSW.
The Junee Liquorice and Chocolate Factory is housed within a historic flour mill which dates back to 1935. The building is huge and mysterious - it feels like it's bursting with history, secrets and stories - and provides an amazing setting for exploring the magical world of chocolate and liquorice.
When you step inside, the place is saturated with the smell of liquorice and chocolate so take a deep breath and soak it up! There is the option to take a DVD tour which explains the liquorice making process or you can wander the nooks and crannies of the building at your own pace. This is a real working factory so you get to see the process unfold and for a small fee, you can make your own giant chocolate freckle or rocky road.
The viewing space isn't huge but it is quirky and full of nostalgia so take a little time to really look around. You can climb some rickety stairs to a gift shop then take a look back over the factory floor. The low light adds a real moodiness to the place and if you look up, the remnants of the flour mill are really interesting too.
There is a café and restaurant on-site offering breakfast and lunch daily. A beautiful Mediterranean style courtyard and fishpond outside are great to explore on sunny days and of course, after looking at the liquorice and chocolate being made, you can pick up a sample from the shop too.
