Winter School Holiday Activities on the Mornington Peninsula

There are many great things to do with children on the Mornington Peninsula despite the cooler weather. Here are some of the many activities that will keep your kids active and having fun during the school holidays.

Mornington Bay Run is a fantastic event supporting the Peter Mac foundation. Kids can join in the fun with a 4.2km run or 4.2km walk. Nothing is better than getting out and being active as a family. Entry costs $29 adults, $19 youth/children, $75 for 2 adults 4 children or $45 for 1 adult 4 children. There is also a 8.24km option for adults and teenagers. Abunda Olive Festival @ Montalto is a part of the 2014 Winter Discovery Program . The festival is on the 5th and 6th of July between 11am-5pm and entry is free. You can expect live music, a small group of hand selected market stalls, cooking demonstrations, martini bar, kids activities, olive oil massage and Montalto food and wine. Pelican Park Aquatic Centre is hosting plenty of school holiday fun between Tuesday - Friday over the two weeks of the holidays. with pool parties, mega day of inflatable madness, pool play and Thuderbolt, a 19 metre dual racer obstacle course. As well as plenty of fun they are also offering intensive 5 day swimming lessons with 30 minutes each day and costs $65 per child. To find out more click here .


Mornington Races on Sunday 6th of July will have free childrens activities including a native animal display and face painter. First race is at 12:30pm - 6pm. Entry costs $12 for adults and children 15 and under are free. To find out more click here .



Searoad ferries are having twilight cruises on Friday and Saturday nights during June and July. This may be the perfect opportunity for worn out parents to leave children with grandparents and have some time out. Enjoy award winning local wines and food from the Bellarine and Mornington Peninsulas. Tickets are $30pp. For more info click here .

Frankston Arts Centre have plenty of things on during the school holidays including:
A Magical Extravaganza, A 75 minute magic show suitable for adults and children. Tickets cost $22.50pp or $80 per family.
The Fairies - Jump Jump tickets priced between $25 - $27.50.
Justine Clarke, a singer, actor and child entertainer that is well known for her work on ABC's Play School. Tickets are $30
The Gruffalo, a multi award winning book comes to life at the FAC. Tickets cost $16.

Mornington Historical Railway - Teddies Day Out will be held on Sunday the 13th of July. Bring a teddy and enjoy the special steam train ride from Moorooduc to Mornington return. All children will receive a gift and a certificate to take home. Adults cost $16 return, children $8 and a family of four $43 ( children under 4 are free). To find out more click here.



The Briars Junior Ranger program 'Fabulous Fungi Adventure' is aimed at children aged between 6-10 years old. Sessions will be held on June 30th, July 3rd, 9th and 10th from 1pm - 3:30pm. Children cost $16 each and bookings are essential. To book call (03) 59743686

Angus & Rose cafe at the Briars will host 'Wonder Whimsical Winter Workshops' from June 30th - 4th of July and will include paper art, winter garden, potting up a tea cup, canvas art and 'frozen'. Workshops are held indoors but it's recommended your child takes gumboots and a rain coat. All sessions cost $15 and bookings are essential. To book call 59744833.

For something a little bit different why not take the Inter Islands ferry from Stony point to Cowes for an afternoon. The ferry leaves Stony Point at 8am, 12 noon and 5pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturday and Sunday and twice daily on Mondays and Fridays at 8am and 5pm. The return ferry is at 8:45am, 12:40pm and 5:25pm. Tickets cost $24 return for adults and $12 for children ( under 4's are free) to find out more click here .

For something FREE with no booking required why not have a look at:
Balcombe Estuary reserve has a small playground, a good sheltered area where you can light a fire in the fire places next to electric BBQ's and picnic tables, a boardwalk, estuary and beach access all within a 100 metre stroll to the coffee shops of Mt Martha.
Mcclelland Gallery Sculpture Park: whilst not technically on the Peninsula, it's not far away and offers a great space for kids to explore and let their imagination run free with over 100 major sculptures and artworks dotted throughout the 16 hectare park. and garden.
Coolart Wetland and Homestead is perfect for the enthusiastic bird watcher with over 60 species found here.
Mornington Main Street market every Wednesday and the Mornington farmers market on the 12th of July from 8:30am- 1pm. (gold coin donation)
