The all-new sessions of individual and group classes in violin, piano, singing, drums and toddlers' music have recently started at Hamersley Community Recreation Centre. These activities are run privately by
Jumeirah Music Centre Perth (JMC Perth) headed by Perth-based soprano, Marian Nelson, whose passion for children's music education resulted in her founding the
Jumeirah Music Centre in Dubai (JMC Dubai) before settling in Perth in 2011. "The centre caters specifically for children to access musical appreciation, education, and performance skills", explained Nelson. "JMC Perth is a subsidiary of JMC Dubai. Our goal is to provide our community with the finest educational program in music that will foster a lifelong source of enjoyment and self-expression", she added.
Individual and group lessons in various instruments including singing are held everyday after school hours. The syllabi and teaching method aim to develop technique while teachers assign repertoire that enhances students' interests and levels of abilities. "Students are guided to expand their musical skills and improve self-expression through a wide range of musical experiences such as concerts, master classes, recitals and performance appraisals".
Classes for toddlers ages 1.5 - 3 years are held on Thursday mornings. It is a 30-minute session of music-based play. It is also a drop-in class so parents do not commit to a full term tuition.
Other courses being offered by
JMC Perth is Music Theory & Aural Training. This class serves as an "enrichment course for high school Music students who need further exercises in aural training and additional preparation for music theory. This class will also benefit those who are preparing for their graded practical music examinations with AMEB, ABRSM or TrinityGuildhall".
