Bring your children down here for some interesting events
Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre - corner Flynn and Selby Streets, Wembley - Come and discover this beautiful wetland and all the wildlife that live in this interesting area. Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre provides a unique opportunity for schools and the general community to reconnect and interact with nature in a local setting.
This will be on Monday 8th July from 10.00 am to 12 noon.
This event will be a fun and exciting programme featuring some of the reptiles and frogs that live at the Wildlife Centre. You will go on a guided nature walk and get engrossed in reptile and frog inspired art activities.
Although the session is 2 hours, children will be able to enjoy the centre and its surrounds for the day. You can even have a picnic on the grass afterwards. Tickets $20 per participant (parents/carers are free). You can register at this link.
Hidden Worlds 9th July, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm At this event, you will look more closely at the tiny creatures that live in the soil and the environment that is all around us. Here you will unearth some amazing facts about spiders, scorpions and insects. You will be able to make your own Hidden World terrarium which you can then take home.
This will be held on 9th July from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon and tickets cost $20 per child. Click on this to register.
Awesome Owls This program will be held on Wednesday 10th July from 10.00 am to 12 noon.
It will be another fun and exciting science program featuring owls. They will tell you all about some of the incredible owls that we have around Perth. You will also dissect your own owl pellet to see what they've eaten and go on a guided bird walk. This would suit ages 6 - 15, but all ages are welcome. The cost is $20 and you can register here.
Drawing Nature will be held on 11th July from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. This will have a second event on 12th July from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon.
This will be taken by Nature Art founder Jodie Davidson and here you will learn how to draw our native insects through a series of observational drawings. You will draw amazing artwork that you will be able to take home and keep for many years! This one is suitable for ages 5 -15 years.
16th July, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon
If for some reason, you cannot go camping during the school holidays, why not come down to Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre and get into the swing of camping and campfire cooking activities! You will learn how to cook your own damper, pop some popcorn and toast those marshmallows over the fire while your parents can relax with a billy tea or coffee. This event is suitable for children 6 years and over.
