Julieta – Film Review

Julieta is a haunting and captivating story that gradually and subtly creeps up on, which may leave you in tears at the very end. I'm a huge fan of the director Pedro Almodóvar's films and his empathic portrayal of women.

Julieta is a Spanish film based on three short stories from the book Runaway by Alice Munro. The story is told as Julieta writes down her memories in a letter to her long lost daughter, after she accidently runs into Bea, the childhood friend of her daughter Anita. We discover a life filled with guilt, regret and an enduring love between family members.

The set design is stunning and you'll see Pedro's trademark use of vibrant colour throughout. The expressive score leaves you with a sense of mystery.
Julieta is one of Pedro's best films and its Mediterranean scenery and beautiful cinematography will leave you spellbound.

Julieta releases in cinemas around Australia on Thursday 13th October 2016.
