Spectacular views of Black Mountain from the pool area
Located in the Port Douglas Hinterlands in Queensland,
Julatten Mountain Spa Retreat is just over one hour's drive from Cairns with spectacular views and photo opportunities from three lookouts along the Mount Malloy road. The entrance to the retreat is marked modestly with a small sign and two purple flags. Follow the driveway to the end and step out of your car into an oasis of tropical plants, Balinese stone statues and a warm welcome from Kristina, the retreat owner.

Tropical gardens invite beautiful visitors
Keith and Kristina Whiting purchased this retreat back in 2006. Since then they have transformed it from a largely unknown getaway for naturists to a world class spa retreat. This retreat experience offers everything from healing day spa bliss treatments to extended stays in boutique accommodation; in tandem with unique wellness courses which are held in the retreat healing centre.

Vishy Shower treatment room
The retreat is managed by Anna Whiting. Anna has instructed and practices healing arts world wide. Julatten Mountain Spa Retreat is now Anna's home and as well as providing daily treatments Anna hosts and facilitates retreats with bodywork sessions merging kahuna, cranio-sacral and lomi lomi massage within the retreat healing centre.
Its clear to see the owners, managers and staff at this retreat are all very proud of their surroundings. The eco friendly cabins are furnished superbly with comfy beds and balinese style ornaments. They offer modern bathrooms with unique outdoor shower areas. Each of the four cabins has a private, secluded deck that hosts a day bed and spa baths for those wanting a romantic getaway or quiet contemplation.
I enjoyed the must have Julatten signature treatment of a shiva vichy shower, which was a four hands massage with warm coconut oil, organic body scrub and warm rain water for just $155.00. Afterwards I indulged in a relaxing facial which Niki, my personal host, advised would bring a sense of wellbeing to the whole body as the wisdom of Ayurvedic herbs and delicious aromas would excite the senses and soothe the soul. For just $135.00 it was an experience not to miss.

Ulima Creek, its too cold for crocodiles
The retreat has access to the clear cool mountain waters which flow through the property from Black Mountain. Ulima Creek is a beautiful swimming hole where you can relax and chill out on a warm Queensland evening; however if you're not brave enough for that, do as I did and enjoy a cold glass of champagne by the pool.
