Dressed in a crisp white suit and sporting a larger-than-life smile and charming personality, Josh Glanc appears to his audience, donning his signature look with his glorious mustache, coupled with his mischievously wide-eyed facial expressions that instantly lights up the room with a sense of joy and happiness. With his new show, he performs as an amalgamation of a suave crooner with a penchant for clowning and comedy, who is able to serenade to several lucky audience members closer to the stage.
Getting personal with his most recent show Glance you for having me, Glanc's show boasts of a silly yet entertaining mix of real-life experiences that are hilariously played out through his natural knack of adding a comedic spin to it. Fun soundtracks playing in the background include Tracy Chapman's Fast Car and Super Mario's sound effects for jumping, to accentuate his likeness to everyone's well-loved video game character. A different concept to his previous shows, this show adds a touch of personal references to produce something that will make us laugh at, but also with Glanc. Ever thought about faking appendicitis to get out of something? What about telling your parents that you're dating someone who's closer to their age than to yours? Oh, how about telling your Jewish mum that you'd rather take up comedy than law? Yeah, Glanc did all that (and possibly more), but he lived to tell us of the tales, so I guess it's not all that bad (just really bloody funny)!
After leaving his career in law to chase his dream of getting into comedy, Glanc has consistently proven his worth and capability to make his audiences laugh, by delivering fresh, new content year after year and creating something bold and exciting that captures his essence of being someone with a unique sense of humour and style that just...works! You may think of a show as having several independent segments that aren't necessarily connected to each other, but Glanc is able to make the non-linear storyline work and not create an abrupt transition in the process. As charming and smooth as he is with winking at audience members across the room, he is able to move on from one topic to the next in a way that appears to flow brilliantly. There's a refreshing stage presence that adds to the uniqueness of Glanc's ability to entertain his audiences, by weaving a bit of narrative and delivering one-line bangers that makes the room erupt with cheers and laughter. You won't know what to expect, but you'll be glad to be surprised by the quality and content of this show.
Glanc's show brings flavours of sketch, stand-up, clowning, and improv, mixed with a sprinkle of inspiration from his own Jewish heritage that adds that extra punch to the overall concept of the show. It's an hour of ridiculous antics, lighthearted fun, and lots of surprising moments that will leave the audience in fits of laughter, as they unapologetically shower Glanc with hearty applause throughout the show.
Glance You For Having Me will be performing at the Garden of Unearthly Delights till March 17, as part of the Adelaide Fringe. Book your tix here.
