In Season 1 of Jordskott , several years have passed since the police commissioner Eva Thörnblad's daughter Josefine disappeared at the forest lake in Silver Height. Though the body was never found, it was considered a tragic drowning accident. Eva returns to her hometown to find it's happening again. A child disappears and Eva goes in search, convinced someone has taken the kids.

After a hugely successful first season the world over, Season 2 takes it out of the woods in Silverhöjd to the concrete jungle of Stockholm where Eva throws herself into her work. Amping it up with darker and more disturbing themes; Eva Thörnblad continues to fight the fight of her inner and outer world. Torn about carrying and using the enhanced powers forever within her, she's also aware of the destruction the Jordskott causes in its wake.


It is said the title of the series, Jordskott , is a word intentionally dubious and leaves a lot for interpretation. Not a very common Swedish word, the TV series gives it specific meaning; an organism that takes over the body and mind, an organism that'll heal wounds rapidly and increase your attention, but may also kill you in the long run.

In Season 2, this Nordic Noir goes the full gamut with parasites living in humans, black gunky liquid from the forest giving out strange powers to those who soaked it up, and a telekinetic teen. It might all sound a bit far fetched, but by now you're hooked with the anticipation of where it's all going to lead, and what's to become of Eva. This is a crime drama with a generous twist of horror and supernatural genres running through its veins.


Moa Gammel as Eva Thörnblad may have moved to Stockholm, but she's still not out of the woods. She's bought the apartment next to her mother's place and bought her mother's as well, but has the entrance boarded up. Still guzzling dark liquid from a vial to keep her parasites at bay, she sets about dealing with the case of a mystery man found in the lake. He's been badly tortured and his tongue torn out. Who is he, why was he lurking outside Eva's front door? There seems to be a link between him and Eva's ill tempered mother.

Parallel to it, Eva is investigating illegal immigrants hidden away in the basement of what looks like a silo building; and a case of a few missing girls held captive in the basement of a factory. That's a strong start with a lot to digest, and if that were not enough, let's throw in the mystery of the missing babies, a secret organisation and a walk down memory lane for Eva, that brings a few truths to life.


Moa Gammel continues to draw you in as the haunted vulnerable Eva, complete with all the human frailties we don't expect to have exposed in law enforcement. Anna Bjelkerud who plays Eva's mother Agneta Thörnblad is a good choice that counter balances Eva's ever present character on screen. She's the acid tongued, mental patient from hell who can't stand her daughter.

Between these two huge characters, all else pales in comparison All that exists is the storyline filled with twists and turns, and situations and people that are not what they seem to be at all. With so many leads and so many situations going on simultaneously, you may feel a little lost at the beginning, but never fear! Season 2 cleverly unfolds its layers, after leading you down the garden path, till you exhale a loud 'aaaaahhh' as understanding dawns upon you. Another season cleverly coming together that you'll want to watch to the end, while anticipating the third season.
