Jones the Grocer has come to the city! This purveyor of fine gourmet products lovingly crafted by artisan suppliers, both local and international, has long been a fixture in the Chadstone Shopping Centre and Doncaster Westfield. Doubtless many foodies in the Melbourne CBD are happy to see a location open right in the commercial heart of the city.
Emporium's Jones the Grocer consists of two sections: a shop offering a variety of gourmet and artisanal foods, and a stylish café with a delicious menu and bakery.

The café offerings are fairly standard fare (see the photo of a menu below). The prices are a bit on the high side, but still well within the normal range for cafésin the city. Various breads and pastries fill the display cases next to the entrance. Hungry and on the go? Takeout can be ordered at the counter.
I ordered a flat white and the Scotch steak with mushroom sauce. The coffee was decent, and served fairly quickly. The steak was a little overcooked; I'd ordered it medium and it was nearly well done. I quite enjoyed the mushroom sauce, however. If I had to make a criticism, it would be on the slow service; I had to wait a long while to be seated, even though most of the tables were empty. But it may have been that my arrival coincided with a burst of busyness for the staff. Once I was seated, they were very attentive and prompt to respond.
Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. The high ceiling gives the café an airy feeling, encouraging shoppers to relax and enjoy casual conversation with friends. The Emporium location is smaller than the one in Chadstone Shopping Centre but still offers many delicious options, whether you are dining in or purchasing ingredients for a tasty home cook,
