There are many pubs and local hotels around Adelaide which have undergone renovations and provide a nice modern atmosphere. The Jolly Miller Tavern, located on one of the main back streets in Hindmarsh, is not one of these. You probably won't be singing its' praises to your friends. Be warned, if you have a first date, or are thinking of a lovely lunch with your partner, it would be a better idea to go elsewhere. The only person you should probably be taking is if you have a pokies-loving grandma. Finally, to top it off, on-street parking is pretty poor as well.

Before you stop reading and without sounding too negative, the service is of a slightly above par standard, and the one saving grace for the Jolly Miller Tavern is their $5 lunches on Mondays to Fridays, from 12pm to 2pm. You have the choice of either a chicken or beef schnitzel with gravy, or fish and chips. The serving size isn't big, but the quality isn't all that bad either. For that price, who am I to complain about the lunch? If you are worried that you won't be full, why not simply order two serves? $10 for lunch is still a pretty good deal if you ask me.

The rest of their menu has your standard pub food at reasonable prices. Steaks, roasts, soups, burgers, pasta, and even a kids menu, provides plenty of choices.

After all that, instead of hopping on the pokies machines, you should head down to the nearby Linear Park and stroll along the Torrens River. Soak in the sunshine and listen to the birds chirping in the trees. Perhaps it isn't such a bad experience after all.

Hahaha oh I love the half a slice of white bread instead of a roll... absolute gold. :)

Healthier option is Sun Mi's at Central Market... a sticky bbq chicken thigh and green veg and egg pancake with sauce is $4.50.

The Jolly Miller Tavern is definitely a local pub.

Food, drinks, pokies, and a place to catch up - all you need really if you are a local in the area.
