Jolleys Boathouse restaurant has been an institution in South Australia for some decades. It has a premier location by the river Torrens. The river views really do relax and inspire.



The interior has an open airy feel with light coloured panelling and large windows. I quite imagining living here in my own private boathouse, but my dreams were interrupted by the most beautiful array of food and drinks on offer. Please note the menu offers little for vegetarians, but states options are available on request.



Jolleys starts the proceedings by personally offering each diner a selection of continental bread rolls. The side dishes to accompany the main meals are so fresh and presented with flair. The attention to detail and quality of produce here is part of the reason Jolleys excels.

The service was helpful in all areas, with plenty of knowledge on what the menu offered. Main dishes on offer include char grilled scotch fillet with fingerling potatoes. But a word to the wise, beware of the mustard selection, they bite! Other options included crisp skin barramundi, grilled snapper and orecchiette pasta with slow cooked lamb and spring vegetables.



The specials are always worth a look, with fresh seafood a favourite. On this day there were King prawns from Port Lincoln and Murray cod. The wine list is a little underwhelming, but perhaps I am biased to all our premier wine districts in SA. Prices are on the high end of the scale. This is definitely a special event destination.



Desserts are a highlight and worth holding out for. Highly recommended is the crème fraiche and poached fruit with wafer. I would also settle for the sweetcorn parfait or mini doughnuts. There is something very decadent about all that sugar on display as an art form. Food is approaching new religion status. For those who appreciate the finer arts of dessert, this restaurant is a mecca.



Jolleys has become a quite a landmark. Old Adelaidians remember this place as a kiosk in another life. Serving the visitors who came to go on the pedlos. There is no doubt other stories and history to be obtained about Jolleys Boathouse. The reader may have knowledge to add.



On the day we arrived it was too early to enter the restaurant. So we sat and enjoyed the river views. Before opening time we saw the chefs and staff gathered at a window table enjoying a briefing about the menu and having some of their own meal.

There is obviously lots of planning and preparation that go into making this one of the best restaurants in Adelaide. Plan a visit to experience this piece of Adelaide food excellence.
