Do you love to sing? Are you a bit of a show-off?
Hot Ginger Chorus is inviting Sunshine Coast women to try barbershop singing during June.
Hot Ginger is a women's
a cappella chorus specialising in barbershop singing, with members from across the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland.
The chorus is based at the Maroochydore CWA Hall, opposite the Maroochydore RSL Club. Don't worry, you won't need to drop in at the RSL for Dutch courage; you'll be welcomed with open arms and surrounded by 30 other enthusiastic singers including other newcomers trying barbershop for the first time.
For someone who has been thinking about joining a singing group, now is a good time to check out Hot Ginger because they are currently working on songs you're likely to know including
All That Jazz,
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, ABBA's
Mamma Mia and
Super Trooper, and the John Lennon classic
Imagine.
The chorus also has an excellent new musical director Kim Kirkman. As one of the founding members of The Ten Tenors, he's a wonderful singer but more importantly for aspiring singers, he's an experienced singing coach who gets the best out of his charges with gentle good humour.
"Kim's already improved our sound in just a few weeks so for new members, this would be an opportunity to work with an excellent teacher," said Hot Ginger's team co-ordinator Vanessa Smith.
What is barbershop singing?
Barbershop singing is four-part harmony singing with an emphasis on ringing chords and showmanship. Once you've learned the words and notes for a song, you'll cast aside the sheet music so you can move with the music and tell the story of the song.
Hot Ginger Chorus meets on Wednesday nights at the Maroochydore CWA Hall 104 Memorial Avenue, Maroochydore, opposite the RSL Club. Rehearsal starts at 6.45 pm.
For information about attending a rehearsal, phone Jenny on 0408 006 881.
