Bored? Like swimming, like the ocean or beach? Why not become a member of a lifesaving club? It could be something you never look back from. Its fun, healthy, great for the children and provides an essential service for all of us.

There are over 50 surf livesaving clubs in Victoria. Established as the Royal Lifesaving Society in 1904 and metamorphosing into Lifesaving Victoria in 2002. The SLCs' are run and enjoyed by the members who volunteer their time to organise, run and maintain the clubs, their activities and awards as well as the essential beach patrols.

There are great classes for nippers, through to iron man competitions and many water safety awards are available. People can join as Active or None active members. The costs are reasonable, especially for families and vary slightly from club to club.



You might just want to learn water safety and make sure your children are well grounded in open water based activities. You might only attend occasionally. Yet it is worth the effort. Joining is not expensive and maybe one day you could save a life through being a member and learning something about the beach, the water and water safety in open water and knowing the beach in your area.

Our Lifesavers and Lifeguards all volunteer their time through their clubs and have been patrolling the beaches this summer. Many of skills they have are developed throught the great courses run by the the Surf Lifesaving Clubs and really do set the standards for Australian aquatic safety.

Below is an example of how much these members do for the wider community, some of the statistics below may give you some idea of what these well trained volunteers contribute to keeping our beaches safe and our time at the beach safe and fun.
