Australian actor, singer and musician, John Waters is taking his Radio Luxembourg Tour on the road featuring some of the biggest smash hits of the 60s.

The show reflects on the seminal part that Radio Luxembourg played in "The British Invasion" of music which exposed fans to a plethora of young bands and new sounds and in doing so helped shape the careers of musicians like The Who, The Kinks, The Moody Blues and more.

Established in Switzerland in 1933, Radio Luxembourg was one of the earliest commercial radio stations broadcasting to both the UK and Ireland. Such was its influence on popular culture that until pirate radio was invented in 1964, Radio Luxembourg in the evenings offered the only English-language broadcasts and represented the only pop music radio regularly available to British fans.

After 6 decades, Radio Luxembourg stopped broadcasting in 1992

John Waters pays tribute to Radio Luxembourg and its influence on music, culture and social history in his new show of the same name.

John Waters is no stranger to Australian audiences. he has appeared on our stages and screens giving memorable performances in landmark films like Breaker Morant, in stage productions like The Women in Black and television roles in All Saints, Mystery Road and he spent almost 2 decades on the forever loved and children's show, Playschool.

Alongside John on the Radio Luxembourg tour is Stewart D'Arrietta and the Chartbusters.

I asked John Waters about the show and Radio Luxembourg and here's what he had to say.

How did Radio Luxembourg help to shape your musical experience?
Listening to those broadcasts was my essential induction into the music of the day. It was the same for all of us in the UK. Without Radio Luxembourg I doubt there would have been a 2018British Revolution 2019 in music at all.

Your show features some of the most recognisable and enduring British hits of the 60s. How did you choose which songs would make the show when there is such an abundance of great music to choose from?
The best thing for me to do when putting the list together was to choose the songs that I really felt a strong connection with. It gives me the passion to perform them which I can then hand on to my audience.

For this tour you are teaming up with Stewart D'Arrietta and the Chartbusters. What do you enjoy most about this collaboration to bring these classic songs to life?
Stewart is my friend and musical collaborator of 40 years standing, so it goes without saying that we would continue on. The same applies to our band members - all the best musicians of this genre in Australia, with whom we have worked in many various combinations.

You have been a major force in the Australian cultural scene through film and television. Where does music fit in your love of entertaining?
For me, music is a first. First experience of live performance, long before my screen work. And first in inspiration and ease of delivery. It comes from a special place within me, and allows me to release a lot of genuine passion.
