When I was a small child, I climbed up the towering height of the playground tower and wriggled over and under the writhing snakes within.

When the playground was closed for refurbishment, parents feared that all the joy of the "Snake Playground" would be sucked away by safety regulations. That wasn't the case at all. The playground is bigger, better, and snakier than ever. There is still a two-headed snake, and another with a suspicious lump - plus some fun surprises, like a telegraph and extra-wide seesaw.

As a teenager I picnicked under the trees with friends, or walked along the water with a date. As an adult, I take my kids there to feed the ducks - and of course to climb the snake tower, which now has two fabulous slides.

Since my childhood, the water has grown dirtier - wading is fine but I wouldn't recommend swimming. The playground has spawned several other playgrounds that draw ever more families to the park. It is still a perfect place to hold a birthday party for anyone between age 1 and 100, and the ducks love it too.
