For fans of John Farnham, you may be surprised to learn that it has been twenty five years since his incredibly successful Whispering Jack was released. To celebrate, John Farnham is touring Australia. That's right- he's back. Again.
When Whispering Jack was released, it was John Farnham's twelfth studio album. It quickly became Australia's highest selling and most successful album ever. Now, a quarter of a century later, John Farnham is older (63) and even more popular than ever.
The upcoming concert is going to be different from all of his other concerts. The first half of the performance is an acoustic performance of a selection of his songs. Some pre-Whispering Jack era songs and some others, although what exactly is going to be performed no-one knows.
In the second half of the concert, John Farnham is back with his band. They are planning to perform all of the songs of the Whispering Jack tracks, interspersed with stories about how they were made. It is believed at this point that all of the songs are going to be performed in the order they appear on the album, making the second song performed one of his biggest hits around- You're The Voice. This begs the question 'How is he going to end the show with a bang after performing all his hits first?'
Beginning his tour in Adelaide, then moving to Sydney to Brisbane to Melbourne and finally (saving the best to last) to Perth, the concert is selling out fast. Already John Farnham and his producers have decided to add more shows for each state. They began with just two shows each, but after they practically sold out in less than a week, with a lot of demand for more shows, they relented, adding up to five extra shows to their tour. However don't be fooled into thinking that there are plenty of seats available; there are limited seats available in most of the performances already.
Last year, John Farnham released a new album, Jack. With several new songs and some cover songs on there too, he toured Australia with his sell out concert. This was a runaway success, as was his previous farewell concerts. He has appeared with Coldplay (last year he covered one of their songs at his concerts) for Sound Relief. He has also lent his voice for the album Flood Relief. Both of these are charity events/organisations to help victims of recent disasters.
John Farnham has had too many number one hits to list, and it is no surprise that he is one of Australia's favourite singer/performers. He has toured with his farewell concerts several times, but, to the amusement of everyone, he just can't stay away and his fans don't want him to. From his humble beginnings at the age of eighteen, singing the novelty hit Sadie the Cleaning Lady, to performing You're The Voice and all of his other brilliant songs, John Farnham has stayed a firm favourite for fans all around Australia.
If there is only one concert you go to this year, why not make it the Whispering Jack 25 Years On concert. This show is sure to be a sell out hit, just like his other shows were. Whether you are a fan of John Farnham or relatively new to his music, his songs and his show will prove to be a delight for young and old.
