Melbourne is a city of great people and diverse cultures, its history reflects this. While its known Melbourne is a city of a rich history‚ not all that many may know of the John F. Kennedy monument.
Situated in Treasury Gardens the monument pays a local tribute to the U.S President who was elected President in 1960.
Kennedy brought a youthful energy and engagement to politics, Kennedy also brought his wife Jacqueline - a women of note and great achievement in her own right - as well as his young children, Caroline and John. For these reasons his death was seen as especially sad and saw him grieved well beyond the United States.
The monument itself is small - but significant and this is appropriate given its context. It occupies a section of the Treasury Gardens just off the walkway from 1 Treasury Place, where the Victorian Governments offices are.
For fans of history, politics - or even those who may just wish to take a moment to pause and reflect on a leader who left a significant legacy - it is a monument that warrants the walk to.
