Hello dumplings heaven
This Friday night, I visited Joe Dumpling at the Plant 4 Bowden complex. It was a cold, drizzly night and I was looking for some warm comfort food - and that's what I got. In terms of atmosphere, the place was very busy and felt like a marketplace. Security guards were ensuring that people adhered to social distancing.

Hello dumplings: The front of Joe Dumpling

We ordered the following dishes: the warm noodle salad with peanut sesame sauce, the tapioca chicken with honey soy and steamed rice and for my vegan readers, the crunchy cauliflower with sweet chilli mayo and steamed rice. Each dish was accompanied by a set of dumplings (chicken for the first two, vegan for the last) and a fresh salad. I am happy to say that every meal was a success.

The warm noodle salad was perfectly balanced with very light noodles and a calming, nutty peanut sesame sauce which didn't overpower the entire dish. The chicken in the dumplings was soft, tender and flavoursome with a peppery, salty taste which was softened by the sweetness of the corn included in the dumplings. The salad offered brightness and freshness to the dish.

The tapioca chicken dish was a meat lover's dream. Think crispy, tender and juicy chicken against the chicken and corn dumplings (same as the ones in the warm noodle salad) and the fresh, acidic salad.

I was pleasantly surprised by the crunchy cauliflower dish. The cauliflower was so crispy, I honestly couldn't notice that I was having a meal without meat. I'm sorry to say that I am not sure what was inside the vegan dumplings - it tasted like meat. I'm thinking it was gluten but I can't be certain. But believe me, it was tasty.

Even though I had sampled three dishes, at the end of my meal I still felt light and not too full. I would definitely recommend to you Joe Dumpling - for both the meat lovers and vegans out there. You will not be disappointed.
