Joan O'Reilly's Lilydale Florist has been in Lilydale for over 35 years.

The shop.

This is not a big shop, but it is big on merchandise. Apart from the colourful flowers, it is amazing how many non-floral items are available.

One wall of items.

There are many display cabinets around the shop displaying things such as cards for all occasions, cushions, soft toys and of course, vases.

A display of colourful message balloons would make a nice addition to any floral gift. 'Happy birthday', 'Good Luck', 'Get Well', 'It's a Boy', 'It's a Girl' and 'Congratulations' are some of the messages noted on them.

Naturally, the main product are flowers. Whatever your taste, you will not be disappointed. The range is extensive, from a simple bunch of cut flowers to elaborate and colourful displays.

I was taken by a huge colourful display of what I thought were beautiful red roses, but they didn't quite look like a conventional rose. On asking, owner Anna explained, "They are Peony Roses, artificial ones." I had to touch them to believe it as they looked so real. "The gift that keeps giving," I thought.

Equally colourful, but real, were a splendid display of Gerberas. You could not find a more colourful flower, but the bright yellow Jonquils came close.

Once upon a time, if you were sending flowers to someone, it would be a nice bunch, nicely wrapped. These days the trend, and a good one, is to send more than just a bunch of colourful flowers.

You can get them by the bunch.

Arrangements come in many shapes, bouquets, vase arrangements or baskets, all making perfect floral gifts. The most unusual item I saw were several stalks of cotton balls. Most unusual.

Anna said that many of her flowers are sourced locally, as there are many flower growers in the nearby Dandenong Ranges and beyond. With the growers delivering daily, freshness is assured. All occasions are catered for, including flowers for your home or office, weddings, birthdays or any special occasions.

Delivery to the local area is always available. Whatever your floral requirements are, you will find it at Joan O'Reilly's ready to go, or I'm sure one their qualified florists can custom make an arrangement for you.

A browser's delight.

Despite the large numbers of items in the shop, they are not crowded, which makes it very easy to browse.
