The hike takes place in a magic forest with incredible magnificent trees, a creek and a beautiful waterfall.
Joalah section walk has two trails: Curtis Falls track and Lower creek circuit. The hike starts both at Eagle Heights Road and Dapsang Avenue. There are parking facilities and toilets.
Curtis Falls Track is rated Grade 3 meaning the hike is relatively easy, still, some hiking experience is necessary and the trail may have steps and steep sections. The trail is 1.1 km return, allow about 30 minutes walking time.
Lower Creek Circuit is rated Grade 4, meaning bushwalking experience recommended, track may be rough and steep.
The trail is 2.5 km return, allow about 1 hour walking time. The hike involves crossing the creek - this is lots of fun and adventurous. If you don't want to cross the creek, you can retrace your steps.
Curtis Falls is a very popular trail up to the waterfall and it can be very busy.
The Strangler figs send their roots down from the top of their host tree. Then the roots fuse together around the trunk of the host tree. Strangler figs provide food for many mammals and birds in the forest.
After the hike in the afternoon, I visit Gallery Cafe in Tamborine Mountain together with the group before heading home.
Gallery Cafe, in 12 Long Rd, Tamborine Mountain QLD 4271.
What to bring
Hiking gear: a hiking medium backpack, long trousers and shirt with long sleeve, light raincoat, very recommended hiking ankle supportive boots; first aid kit, insect repellent (it works for leeches; give preference to cream or roll-on that are more environmentally friendly than the spray), sunscreen, gloves, walking poles if you like to use them, socks protectors or gaiters.
Consider packing some extra clothes and leave them in the car. Pack some clean footwear and socks.
For this hike, consider carrying a map or download a good app on your smartphone that can help you to navigate in the bush.
Bring a medium day backpack with lots of water, especially if it's a hot day, 1.5 litres of water and snacks. During summer you can bring electrolytes to dissolve in water to compensate for the loss through perspiration.
You may consider packing sandwiches, fresh fruit, dry fruit, energy bars and small meals.
Walk with family, friends or in a group. Never alone!
