Food With a View
The wrap around balcony

It had been quite a few years since I last visited Jo-Jo's but a family birthday lunch led me back to this iconic inner city Brisbane restaurant. Gladly, it had retained many of the familiar features which I remembered.

What is the Jo-Jo's story?
Jo-Jo's has a long history on the Brisbane restaurant scene having been opened in 1978 by Steve Ackerie. It was originally designed to cater for hairdressing clients of the adjoining Stefan hair salon. It has shown to be a keeper continuing to offer 4 kitchens where orders are taken, serving up a selection of casual menu items from wood fired pizzas, pastas and steak to burgers, Asian fusion, and seafood.

What to choose?

The Big Brissy Burger ($19.50) is a local favourite, On a hot summer's day, my guest and I sat outside on the balcony and enjoyed a bacon and mushroom quiche and assorted salads which proved to be a great choice. The pumpkin ravioli ($19.00) and Lebanese chicken ($24.00) also caught our eye. After making your selection from the menu, you step up to one of the 4 kitchens and make your order. Jo-Jo's is fully licensed making a glass of wine with lunch an easy companion. Of course, there are some scrummy desserts like Belgian waffles and chocolate fudge sundae to finish off any meal.

The quiche and salad

A location that's hard to beat
Jo-Jo's is easy to find. Just follow the Stefan rainbow signage up the escalator (or stairs) off the shopping precinct of the Queen Street Mall. The outdoor wrap around balcony overlooks the mall and is perfect for people watching. High bench seating only helps to capture the best of the view. Inside is spacious and air-conditioned (with a lot of white and marble tiles and wall trimmings) and the atmosphere is vibrant and lively. Friendly staff were efficient and the meals and drinks arrived promptly.

A great spot to watch the madding crowd

Looking for a function space?
Being such a large space, Jo-Jo's is also available for functions including birthdays, charity events, awards nights or a chance to get your friends together. High tea packages are available from $30-$40 per person with tiered stands of savouries, sandwiches and sweet treats. Yum.

Cold water on a hot day

Overall, our visit to Jo-Jo's was an enjoyable chance to remember the past and create new foodie memories.
