The Jiving Monkey for great asian food and pho
In our ongoing quest for great pho I dropped in to this great little restaurant in my neighbourhood for some Sunday evening takeaway. Jiving Monkey is a great spot for authentic Asian food--eat in or takeaway.
A fantastic menu with nothing over $14.50. They are open 7 days. Monday to Saturday 11am - 9pm and on Sunday 3.3pm - 9pm. Right on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Stephen Terrace in College Park so super convenient. In a small complex with a good amount of parking.
The restaurant itself is quite small but can seat up to about 15 people and in the warmer months the windows open right up for indoor-outdoor dining.
Our favourite is the pho and again I selected the combination--enjoying a little bit of everything. The other part of the order was pad thai, a very generous sized serving that tasted delicious. The Vietnamese fish cake (five pieces) at $4.90 was a great starter and came with sweet chilli sauce.
As a good hawker or market restaurant the menu has great variety including salads, roll your own rice paper rolls, pho (noodle soup), bun (vermicelli), broken rice, stir fries, and curries stir fried. There are vegetarian options and a range of meat options and six different sauces to choose.
On a practical note they offer home delivery for $5 for orders over $30 for suburbs: Joslin; Royston Park; St Peters; College Park; Marden; Payneham; Hackney; Firle; Tranmere; Kensington; Kent Town; Linden Park; Leabrook; Marryatville; Rose Park; Roslyn Park; Stepney; Magill; Maylands; St Morris; Norwood.
The restaurant toasty warm in winter and open and airy in summer. The food comes quickly when ordered and is authentic and delicious.
