Jive dancing is sometimes described as Europe's style of our jitterbug dance. However, you want to describe it, it's a fast, fun dance to learn, and there are several studios in NYC that teach this type of dancing. You can find studios in New York City as well as the five boroughs. With so many to choose from, you should have no trouble finding one close to you that will have classes to fit your schedule.

Smooth Street Ballroom (several locations)

There's more than one Smooth Street Ballroom, so no matter where in New York City you live, you're sure to find one close to you. Each of the five boroughs has at least one location, as does Staten Island, and Long Island.

You're invited to take a free introductory lesson. If you decide you like it, then you can sign up for as many dance classes as you wish. Jive dancing is just one of several dances that are taught, so you can learn it and as many more as your feet will let you.

Dance Lessons in NYC, 520 8th Avenue

This studio offers fifty-minute private dance lessons Monday through Friday of each week. You can learn to jive dance in no time without worrying about how you look in front of others. You and your partner are the only ones receiving instruction during your 50-minute session. This ensures that you get the best teaching available, so that you can learn to jive dance.

Stepping Out Studios, 37 West 26th Street, 9th Floor

This studio also offers jive dancing lessons, as well as a little information on the "back story" behind this very physical dance. You can learn how it got its name and how it spread to other parts of the world by visiting the website.

If you want a real workout, then jive dancing is the dance for you. The movements are very exaggerated, with lots of kicks, bounces, and generally just moving and shaking. So, not only are you learning a new dance, you're getting in shape, too, and Stepping Out Studios helps you do that.
