"Welcome to the world of Jimmy Blanco – a mixed up, part South American, part Australian epic. And don't expect his food to be any different..."
Tucked in between a café and a sushi restaurant
on Foveaux Street in Surry Hills is so inconspicuous you would walk right past it, unless you are looking for it. And there is a good reason to look for it. The tantalising combination of Australian produce and Latino flavours with very reasonable prices to boot makes this quirky restaurant a perfect weekday get away from the rush hour pedestrian traffic.
The menu at Jimmy Blanco is brimming with all things halloumi. The selection of mouth-watering halloumi burgers and salads ranges from $12 to $18. Another must-try is $8 Jalapeno poppers – cheese filled jalapenos with hot chipotle salsa. It's like eating a holiday.
The menu is geared towards the healthy eaters with most of the choices being either Vegetarian or Gluten free, or both in the case of salads.
To make things even better Jimmy Blanco is running a happy hour every day from 5.30 to 7pm. Their scrumptious Margaritas and all other cocktails are only $10 during this time, while house wine is being given away for $5 a glass.
Jimmy also upholds the time-honored tradition of Cheap Ass Tuesday by offering any side dish plus a soft drink for $5 when you purchase one of their delicious burgers.
Apart from the appetising food and cocktails, Jimmy Blanco has another major draw card. Being so inconspicuous it never gets crowded. Its relaxed atmosphere invites quiet conversations and offers a cosy feeling of privacy, which is quite a rarity in Sydney these days.
Jimmy himself is a real person – he is the patron of the restaurant. His colorful story is printed on the menu and provides an interesting read.
