, also known as Riverside walk, is located in the Rockhampton CBD along Quay Street and Fitzroy River. The Jim McRae walk honours the late mayor of Rockhampton, Jim McRae, who following his 18 years of continuous service in the council chamber become Rockhampton Mayor from 1997 to 2000. His lasting legacy is the along the south bank of the the park he worked so hard to create, among his other achievements.
Beginning at the carpark near the
playground , the walk is all cemented with a well-maintained beautiful garden bursting with colours of tropical flowers. You can walk on the Fitzroy Riverside up to the Fitzroy bridge then go up and continue your walk on the pavement side of Quay Street. You can see so many well-preserved
historic buildings along this street .
There are some benches along the track if you need to take a breath or just stop to enjoy the view. There is free wi-fi along this track so you can Google some history of these old buildings. Drinking water fountains are also available along the tracks.
