The year is 5BCE and the Church is faced with dropping attendances and waning interest. So they do what any go-ahead, modern organisation would do - they hire an advertising agency.
The firm decides that what the church really needs is a figurehead. Someone attractive, but with the common touch, someone remarkable but ordinary; someone who can perform .. miracles.
If this concept appeals, you need to see the new play by playwright Damon Lockwood whose previous comedy
I (honestly) Love You was so well received. It's called
Jesus - No Ordinary Life and is on at The Blue Room from June 16th.
Lockwood says of his latest production: "The seemingly constant abuse of power from an institution that purports selfless love I find saddening and shocking. We have assembled an astounding cast to present a different but no less likely history of Christianity. And the play is as funny as hell."
In case you're wondering, the advertising agency hold an audition and they get some good people auditioning including a chap called Jesus. He seems good, but he hasn't quite got the right look ....
Jesus - No Ordinary Life runs at the Blue Room Theatre Studio in the Perth Cultural Centre from the 16th June at 8:30pm until the 4th July.
Tickets cost $15 to $25 and are available from the Blue Room
website or by ringing 9227 7005.
