Okay, I will admit I had to go onto Wikipedia to work out exactly what jerky was; it is a type of cured/dried meat that in different cultures maybe called different things and with terms like meat floss, it's no wonder I had to do some research.
I've always associated beef jerk, but with flavours like sweet chilli, maybe it has a wider appeal. Also according to Wikipedia"... since 1996, jerky has been selected by astronauts as space food several times for space flight due to its light weight and high level of nutrition."
Jerky House however sells more than just jerky, it also sells such things as pollock fish sticks with sesame, prepared rolled cuttlefish, moon cakes and dried fruits to name just a few. I've been there twice now; the first time I was a bit overwhelmed with the choices and didn't buy anything.
Today I returned ready to buy something exotic and try it. The shop was very busy; there was a couple buying moon-cakes that were presented in a beautiful octagonal tin. and the shop keeper was explaining what would be best to give visiting Chinese guests. There was also a group of girls buying lollies, filling their clear plastic bags themselves ready to take to the counter. There was another taking dried fruit, also in preparation to take to the counter.
The shop was definitely bustling which explained the advert in the window advertising for part-time staff member. Unfortunately my timing wasn't good and I ran out of time so I left empty handed but I will be back, I am determined that this little mysterious shop shall at least impart some of its secrets.
