Jenny’s Bakery

Located along Glen Osmond Road in Eastwood, Jenny’s Bakery is where you can enjoy a wide range of baked goods. The items baked on-site not only apply to their baked goods but also to the breads used in their sandwiches.

Their ciabatta sandwiches are heated in a special toaster before being served. The sopressa salami in the Sopressa Salami Ciabatta gave it a mild smoky and spicy taste, and the pickled vegetables complemented it nicely. Basil pesto went well with the other ingredients and the ciabatta was toasted to an appropriate degree. For those concerned about the taste of the provolone cheese, the cheesy taste was not too strong.

The Jenny’s Meat Pie had cubes of beef that were of a good size and they were very tender. The sauce in the pie had a delectable savoury taste, and the pastry encasing the filling was light and flaky. As expected, the pie came with tomato sauce.

A notable aspect of the Banana Boy pastry was the filling of banana bread, which did not taste too sweet. The banana custard had a nice degree of banana flavour and a topping of dried banana chips added some crunch. The pastry was completed with the bottom dipped in milk chocolate.

Another of the ciabatta sandwiches available, the quantity of roast chicken in the Chicken Ciabatta was generous. Tomatoes and lettuce added an element of freshness and enough mayonnaise was used to ensure that the sandwich was not too dry.

The choux pastry of the Coffee Eclair was crisp and not too heavy and the coffee filling was not too sweet. Topping the eclair was coffee icing, coffee beans and a light drizzling of chocolate.

We liked that the sponge cake in the Lemon Torte was light and fluffy, and the lemon jam gave it a refreshing and citrus flavour. Vanilla Chantilly cream helped to balance the tanginess of the lemon and a bit of crunch was provided by the flaked almonds covering the sides.

A good option for vegetarians, the filling in the Vegetarian Pastie had a nice bite to it and sufficient seasoning was used to ensure it did not taste bland. Compared to the pastry used in their pies, the one used for the pastie had a firmer texture. Like their pies, the Vegetarian Pastie came accompanied with tomato sauce.

The size of their croissants was generous. The pastry of the Amond Croissant was crisp and light and the filling had sufficient almond flavour to make eating it satisfying. Extra crunch was provided by the topping of flaked almonds and a dusting of icing sugar completed the presentation.

Their Pistachio Croissant contained a generous amount of pistachio custard, which did not taste too sweet. Aside from a drizzle of pistachio custard, the croissant was also topped with crushed pistachio. Eating it slowly is advised to avoid squirting the filling all over yourself.

Their Coffee, Pecan and White Chocolate Biscotti had the slightly bitter flavour that you expect from coffee. The pecans provided extra crunch to the biscuit. The white chocolate helped to balance out the coffee flavour without being too sweet. The biscotti is best enjoyed by dipping it into a cup of coffee to soften it slightly prior to eating it.

The decor of the bakery gave it an inviting feel. It is known to get busy so arriving early is advised for dine-in customers to avoid having to wait for a table.
