A city girl moved to the country. A Diploma in Horticulture (Parks and Gardens), a Diploma in Fashion Design (pattern making), a degree in Communication (Journalism)...the perpetual student of life

Up a flight of stairs between a funky retro clothing shop and a cool café in downtown Rye, a piece of the art world has begun to make its mark.
Jen Ellen Art Gallery was opened to the public in 2011 as an outlet for Jennifer Ellen's creative art works. Formerly selling at Aspects Gallery in Blairgowrie, which has since closed its doors, at local markets and on the internet, an increase in sales led the dynamic artist to create a space for a permanent display of her work.
Quirky owls and elephants parade around the bright, airy room, combined with paintings consisting of blocks of bright colour and texture. Painting in acrylics, she manages to capture a sense of light, colour and motion on her canvases.
Jen believes that art should be affordable for anybody to have in their homes and this belief is reflected in the prices of many of the paintings for sale. She also has available handmade cards, a range of funky jewellery, and other handmade creations.
The space is opened up occasionally to works created by other artists that come from the surrounding areas, such as the beautifully carved, indigenous wooden artwork created by Dan currently on display; previous guest artists have showcased handmade cards featuring original photography of the spectacular coastline of the Mornington Peninsula.
The gallery space is a pleasure to visit as the windows open up to the view of Rye Beach and Port Phillip Bay from a perspective not normally seen. Unfortunately, as it is up stairs, there is restricted access for wheel chairs and prams. This need not be a problem however, as any works displayed can viewed online at email@example.com, and also on Facebook under Jennifer Ellen Art.
The gallery is open upstairs at 2375 Point Nepean Road, Rye from Friday to Sunday but Jen can be contacted on 0413 966 447 to open the gallery for viewing if you are in the neighbourhood at any other time.
