Melbourne
JDRF One Walk Melbourne on Sunday 19 November will be held at Palm Lawn, Alexandra Gardens, 3 Boathouse Dr, Melbourne. This walk is one of the world's biggest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event that spans across the globe and brings together around a million people to raise over $85 million for life-changing T1D research. This year, Melbourne's special ambassador is legendary cricket player Sir Ian 'Beefy' Botham. This event is close to his heart as his daughter lives with type 1 diabetes. He'll be joining not just Melbourne, but other selected Walks across Australia as well, to hit type 1 for six! He'll be speaking at points during the Walk Day, and opportunities to 'meet and greet' Ian will be announced closer to date.
CLICK HERE for Melbourne, to register your support. You'll find resources and fundraising tips on the
website, to help you on your journey for the cause. Gather family, friends and co-workers to raise money for life-changing T1D research and help turn Type One into Type None. Stay updated via their
Facebook page and the
website.
There are more than 120,000 Australians living with T1D, an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin, a hormone that turns food into energy. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is not caused by diet or lifestyle. It requires constant blood glucose testing through painful finger pricks and a constant supply of insulin by injection or pump, just to stay alive. Your support would be greatly appreciated. There's fun to be had on the way as throughout the day, the following activities will be run:
Children's activities such as colouring in and face painting
Sporting activities suitable for kids and young adults
JDRF research information shared in the JDRF Marquee
Trade stands with information from medical device companies and diabetes-related information
T-shirt competition and other games such as tug-o-war
Snap chat filter and social media check-in points
Food stalls such as sausage sizzle, coffee and ice cream
