A newly opened cafe in Newton

J.D. Brew Espresso Bar & Cafe is a newly opened cafe in the northeastern suburb of Newton. Located at the entrance to the Newton Central Shopping Centre and just six months old, it already has a good flow of patrons even on a Monday morning. The place was about two thirds full while we were there with many getting their coffee fix for the day. And don't worry if you have little ones, as they offer a free babycino for every hot drink purchased. It is child-friendly with highchairs available too.

I ordered the smoked ham, cheese and tomato croissant, banana caramel slice, and iced chocolate. They were all lovely. The croissant was soft and flaky and had a good amount of filling. The banana caramel slice was simply delicious and beautifully made in-house. I think the banana and caramel are perfectly matched. And, the iced chocolate with ice cream was very refreshing on a hot summer's day.

My friend ordered the blueberry muffin and cappuccino. She enjoyed the good-tasting Dimattina coffee, which came with thick foam and a generous sprinkling of chocolate. As for the muffin, although it could do with a bit more blueberries, she said it was nice too - light and fluffy. However, their muffins are not house-made though.

There is a range of selection of house-made sweet treats including slices, cheesecakes, brownies, banana bread and gluten-free protein balls. The fridge is full of these goodies, made in-house using local South Australian brands and ingredients. The gluten-free protein balls are a standout - looking delicious and very healthy - with four different options to choose from.

As for savouries, there are all-day breakfast choices as well as hot dogs, croissants, salads, rolls and sandwiches. The hot dogs are freshly made using quality Barossa Foods Vienna sausages. The salads come with various proteins including turkey, salami, ham or house-made chicken schnitzel. The rolls and sandwiches are also made in-house, and gluten-free bread is available if you so desire.

There are both hot and cold beverages. Coffees are of the quality Dimattina blend and teas are premium Tea Drop selections. Cold drinks include iced coffee, iced chocolate, iced latte, milkshakes and smoothies.

Daniel and two other staff looked after us very well. Their service could not be faulted. Friendly, prompt and efficient. We did not have to wait long for our food and drinks to be served.

The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating, so you will be good whether rain, hail or shine. So do drop by next time you're in the neighbourhood.
