I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

Live music, fabulous food and full tummies in Paddington
[ADVERT]If you're looking for a cheap three course meal in Brisbane, The Jazz Cat Restaurant in Paddington could be for you. With an Asian inspired menu with references to comfortable Australian cuisine, we had an enjoyable meal.

The restaurant is small and the service personal. Entrees were Asian in style, with my husband enjoying his gluten-free Chicken Rice Paper Rolls and myself Crispy Wontons.

Steak
A manly sized steak!

For mains he chose Rib Fillet Steak (again clearly marked gluten-free on the menu) and I enjoyed the house specialty, Acid Jazz Chicken.

Chicken
Crispy skinned chicken with Acid Jazz Sauce.

We found the plate sizes to be quite generous, with only just enough room left in our tummies to squeeze in a coffee after our fabulous desserts of Dark Chocolate Walnut Brownie (again gluten free!) and Tiramisu.

Brownie
Yum! Can't believe it's Gluten-Free!

Tiramisu
My favourite!

We chose to eat at the JazzCat Restaurant as we had a Best Restaurant gift card for $100 and theirs was the only menu which popped as having clearly marked gluten free options, making ordering for my coeliac husband easy. Vegetarian options are also given. We were pleasantly surprised when the whole three courses and coffee for the two of us came in at just under $100. The entrees range from four to eight dollars, with the exception of the Crispy Peking Duck Pancakes which are $19.50. Mains are between $18 and $28, with desserts ranging from $6.50 to $8. If you're feeling daring, you could try the Forbidden Desserts Menu, which are little more expensive but all incorporate a liqueur!

We went on a Thursday night, which was very quiet, but on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Restaurant has a program of live jazz musicians from the Brisbane Music scene. On these nights it would be advisable to book, which you can do online at or by calling them direct on 31618361.

The restaurant also has take-away and function menus, should you live in the area or require a small function setting suitable for a birthday dinner or anniversary. It is licensed or BYO (wine only). Opening times are 5:30-9:00 Monday to Thursday, 5:30 until late Friday to Sunday, and lunch on Saturday and Sunday 12:00-3:00.
