Friends made the booking at this Malaysian restaurant so before we left home I jumped on line to read some reviews. I don't think I've ever come across such opposing views for an eatery. Some sang praises and others said it was disgusting. Well, only one way to find out isn't there?



I have to say it definitely wasn't disgusting, far from it. The staff were friendly and prompt taking our orders. It also wasn't expensive nor did it have dirty cutlery (one of the complaints).

There was plenty to choose from on the menu and they had a good selection on the specials board.

However, the food is definitely not genuine Malaysian, more like Chinese I think. There were 6 of us ordering so we had a good cross selection to judge from. The verdict? Perfectly fine but nothing to rave about. My Lemon Chicken was yummy but the vegetarian noodles were bland. The Chicken curry was nice but the Cashew Beef was so-so. Roti bread was good, not to greasy, and the serving sizes were plenty big enough.

All up we ordered 6 mains, 2 plain rice, roti bread, 3 coffees and 1 lemon,lime& bitters. It's not licensed so it's B.Y.O. with no corkage charge. The bill came to $150. $50 a couple isn't to bad I think.

I was kind of expecting at least some jazz music playing in the background because of the name but there were just some blown up photos of Miles Davis on the walls. Music would have been a nice touch.

If you find yourself in Balwyn and want some Asian food, you could do worse. I wouldn't go out of my way though.
