Afternoon Jazz at the Historical Village
On Saturday June 20th, an afternoon of Jazz will be held at the Caboolture Historical Village – a place more known for country and western music. On this occasion, the Village will come to life with the great music from some Queensland greats, the Jazz Australis, which has an impressive record.

"Jazz is a genre of music that originated in African American communities during the late 19th and early 20th century. It emerged in many parts of the United States in the form of independent popular musical styles, all linked by the common bonds of African American and European American musical parentage with a performance orientation." Wikipedia

Jazz Australis have played at events for BHP Billiton, Nissan, Queensland Turf Club, Holden Australia, Griffith University, and many events which you can see on their website. They also played for Queen Elizabeth II – on her last visit to Australia.
The trio includes Dave Cotgreave on Drums, Lee Matthews on Double Bass and David Spicer on the Piano – all of whom studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

Elly Hoyt will be singing with the group – she has an impressive record, singing since she was 5 years old in Tasmania. She moved to Brisbane to study at the Queensland Conservatorium.

Australian Jazz Musician James Morrison is quoted as saying "From the moment I first heard Elly sing, I knew she had that classic, indefinable thing that makes one a jazz sing. It's not just a sound, or a choice of notes but a way of approaching a song that lets the listener know – this is the real thing."

It promises to be a great event at the Historical Village – in one of the Village greens. The bar will be open at the Pub, you can purchase your coffee on arrival at the Redhall Café, and there will be a Sausage Sizzle, but if you want to bring your own picnic basket of food, you are welcome to do that. Bring your chairs and a rug, and set out to enjoy a great late afternoon of fabulous music.

Tickets are $20 for adults, with children admitted free, but must remain under the control of parents.

Bookings and prepayments are essential. You can book on, or if you wish to call into the village you can pay at reception.

The Caboolture Historical Village is at 280 Beerburrum Road, Caboolture, just past the Caboolture Showgrounds.
