Food and words.

To non locals, Nhill may just seem another country town on the way to other regional Victorian towns, but for Japex Park alone Nhill is worth a stop. The large park and playground is a great place to make a stop for a short picnic or for a longer rest break and you'll find plenty more to explore.

The stand out feature of the park is the large undercover slide. There are steps to climb to the top of a small hill, before taking on this larger than usual slide. On a popular day kids can wait in the shade, because the large sun-cover keeps most of the climb up and the wait at the top sun-safe. There are two playgrounds with climbing frames, walkways and slides, one of these is a bit smaller which makes it perfect for younger kids and toddlers. You'll find swings and other equipment, and even a fun twister game that can be played by the whole family.

Japex Park is the perfect place to stretch your legs if you are stopping off between a long drive. Not only can you go for walks around the park and its surrounding lake and swamp, but there is outdoor exercise equipment to keep you active. With things like cross-trainers, rowing machines and bikes, this is the perfect way to keep your muscles moving on a long road-trip. The equipment is all free to use, and gives adults something to do while the kids play.

You could always play some family games like frisbee or kick around the footy, or the kids can use the space to have a game of tag. If you're eating at the park there are picnic tables to enjoy a packed lunch, or you can fire up the barbecue and sit down at one of the undercover seating areas. There are bakeries nearby where you can grab something to eat if you haven't brought anything along. The park also has the other amenities that you'll need.

When you're at the park you also shouldn't miss the Swamp Boardwalk. You'll leave the bright colours and noise from the park, and enter a tranquil native setting that resembles a watercolour in greyscale.

Stick around in Nhill for a bit longer and enjoy the other things the town has to offer, or pass through on your way somewhere else, whatever you do just make sure you check it out. Nhill might be on your journey if you're travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne, Bendigo, or Ballarat, or if you're heading in the other direction from Melbourne to Adelaide.
