Way back in 1994, a low budget cult-classic film called Clerks was released by a previously unknown entity, Mr Kevin Smith. At the time I was only 10 years old and the movie went by, unnoticed by me given my age.
In 1996, however, I became aware, whilst back home in Canada, of a movie called Mallrats, playing on Pay-Per-View and was desperate to see it, as it looked hilarious. Not wanting to pay the price for Pay-Per-View, my Mom decided that it was not important, so when I returned to Australia, I insisted my father rent the video and from that point on I was a lifelong fan.
Kevin Smith's writing and directing style and the propensity of 'stoner' jokes had me hooked. In the following years, I have seen Mallrats no less than 500 times and have seen all but his latest release as soon as they came out. To say that I am a fan is to understate the fact immensely.
In 2012, Australians will have the chance to see Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes (Jay) and the whole hilarious show. I for one cannot wait and hope that I can score tickets before they are sold out. Having been a fan of his movies and Q&A speaking shows (
An Evening with Kevin Smith, Evening Harder and A Threevening), I am super stoked and super excited to get along and watch one of my comedic heroes in the flesh.
"
[Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes] have toured Jay & Silent Bob Get Old through the US, recording each evening and then releasing the audio as a free podcast, resulting in the show being ranked the #1 podcast on iTunes Comedy. The shows are a sometimes touching, always hilarious, and a very honest insight into what happens when two people grow up together in the Hollywood limelight."
