Dr Jason Leong sure gets around. An acclaimed international comedian who has performed around the globe, we are lucky enough to have him back in Melbourne for the International Comedy Festival.

Despite the world having an abundance of performers and a shortage of medical staff, 10 years ago Jason made the unusual transition from doctor to comedian. A big jump which puts him in the ideal position to dispense laughter as the best medicine.

Drawing on his past career as a medical doctor Jason regales the audience with his moral dilemma whilst on a flight when the call went out "Is there a doctor onboard?" Should he ignore the call, recognising his medical knowledge was so rusty he may do more harm than good, or would he better off delivering a few jokes to assist the passenger?

Jason is a wonderful storyteller. He holds his audience's attention as he describes humorous anecdotes from corporate comedy events that have gone terribly wrong, to stories of his old-school disciplinarian teacher who was feared and admired. Being Chinese Malaysian with an Indian wife, Jason contrasts and highlights the diversity and nuances of these different cultures with authority and humour.

Jason's show "Why are you like this?" is at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival from 28 March-14 April but due to the popularity of these shows new performances have been added from 17-21 April at The Forum. Tickets available here.
