Docklands is hosting the upcoming on the 12th of February 2011. This is a free event from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.



2011 will mark the second year of this popular festival in Melbourne. Organised by the Japanese Society of Melbourne and Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry Melbourne , this festival, also known as Wasshoi Hyakuman Matsuri in Japan, is an annual celebration held throughout the regions of Japan in Summer - which in Japan is the first week of August.

This festival is a celebration of traditional and modern Japanese arts and culture, for example there will be demonstrations of;

The Traditional Japanese "Bon Odori" Dance:


Wadaiko Rindo Taiko Drumming:


Performances by the Japanese School of Melbourne :


Throughout the evening visitors to the festival can indulge in Japanese food, drinks and treats and participate in many of the events, which include a raffle for two return airfare tickets to Japan. There will be many demonstrations of Japanese arts and crafts and many music performances throughout the evening.

The events in 2010 enticed thousands of visitors and this year the organisers of the festival are expecting a much larger crowd. If you wish to volunteer contact the festival organisers here .

The 2011 is a fun and exciting way to participate and embrace Japanese culture, art and dance, right here in Melbourne. As mentioned the event is free and is expected to be quite popular, so head down to Docklands early in the afternoon on Saturday the 12th of February, to experience this very special cultural event.
