The tenth annual Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival is back for 2019, and best of all - entry is free.

The event showcases Japanese culture, with performances, interactive activities, and plenty of Cosplay. Among the activities you can participate in are the traditional Bon Odori dance, as well as arts and crafts including origami. Japanese food will of course be a main attraction of the festival, with stallholders selling traditional food and drink.

The festival takes place in the city's Federation Square, on Sunday the 24th of February from 11:30am until 5:30pm. Those who stay until the end, there will a be raffle prize draw, with the top prizes being economy return tickets to Tokyo. There is also a best dressed competition for those who attend in Japanese costume (either traditional or contemporary).

For a more immersive experience in the festival, volunteering applications are currently open - head to the festival website to lodge your application to help out as a traditional dancer (if you're game) or as a survey collector.

The Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival is an initiative of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Melbourne .
