Decided to check out what the fuss was with Jaimie's Italian in Canberra. We had made a booking for Saturday lunch and we didn't have to worry as the place was half empty. The decor tries to be authentic and vintage, but it can seem a little forced.
The location is in the new fashionable eatery section of Canberra Centre. The signage is poor - it's on the glass so a little hard to see.
On that particular Saturday lunch the service was average. We ordered a bottle of wine and the waitress came with half a bottle ... which she quickly replaced with a full bottle. Food was slow to come out considering it wasn't too busy.
The portions aren't too bad and the food is pretty tasty. I did hear people didn't think highly of the pasta dishes, but I do find that it can be tricky to please people with pasta as they all like it differently.
The polenta chips were a good starter and the starter plates are a good way to try different foods but you'd have to order a few to be full.
