Jake Dennis - the Poet of Jazz - continues his long-standing collaboration with Mint Jazz Band to bring you 'Like Blown Smoke'. Described as "A story of love's shadows; a tale of midnight smoke rings in cold streets; and the journey of fragile embers and smoke blown to passionate fire!" it promises to bring together soulful blues, swinging jazz, and some funky pop tunes.

In 'Like Blown Smoke', Jake Dennis is a casanova who is inviting us to join him as he tells a musical story of a man who has been unlucky in love, but never gives up. He is ready to tell us all about his love, relationships, and loss in the universal language of love - music.

Jake Dennis is Perth's Poet of Jazz. Yes, as well as being an accomplished jazz singer, he's also a published poet of some renown. Perhaps it's that ability to tell stories from the heart with words alone that allows him to give so much to his songs. Who knows what goes in to giving someone talent, but Jake certainly has it! He's apparently been performing since he was just 8-years old, so he has a lot of experience as an entertainer. In fact, it's hard to find a venue worth playing where Jake hasn't appeared! They include DownStairs at His Majesty's Theatre, The Ellington, Rigby's Bar & Bistro (of course), Subiaco Arts Centre, Laneway Lounge, Perth Town Hall, SOOL Cafe Piano Bar, Pirate Bar, Universal Bar, Perth Blues Club, Jazz Fremantle, X-Wray Cafe, La Monakella, and Wolf Lane. He has also performed live on Access 31, Aurora TV, RTR FM, Telethon, & Twin Cities Radio FM. That's quite a CV![BREAK]
The Mint Jazz Band has three members producing the musical magic: pianist Mark Cunniffe, Malcolm Mah on double bass, and Chris Marquand is the drummer. All of them have impressive resumes as well. Chris Marquand has studied jazz and contemporary music at Leeds Music College, and played in a wide range of bands and orchestras before arriving in Perth in 2011. Malcolm is a WAAPA graduate, and also has a wide range of experience both here and in his native Singapore. Mark has recently returned to Perth after sailing the seven seas entertaining travellers on P&O Cruises, and he was the Musical Director on the MS Arcadia. Some of you may even remember him from his sting with Darren Reid and the Soul City Groove from a time well before I care to remember!

These guys played sold-out shows at the recent Fringe Festival, so don't miss this chance to see them! If you're looking for somewhere to spend an evening with great food (a 3-course meal is available) and great music, grab some tickets for their show on the 29th of April at Rigby's!
