On our Premier's advice, I'm still meandering around the Lockyer Valley in an effort to support small rural businesses. There is so much to see and to do and it's only a little over an hour's drive from Brisbane, making it a great day trip.

After a busy morning exploring the Valley, I was ready for a good cup of coffee. So what do you do when you are in a new area and out of your comfort zone? Ask a local, of course.

"Follow me," she said. And we did, into the heart of Gatton, the administrative centre of the Lockyer Valley. What used to be a rural township has started to be encroached on by the suburban sprawl of Ipswich to the east and Toowoomba to the west, though the old buildings still give it a country feel.

Our good samaritan left us at jak & Mo, at 17a Railway Street, a cafe that runs with the motto "Love &Cook with Wild Abandon". Their menu includes Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Friendly, Dairy Free, Keto and Paleo options and they serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, as well as treats and snacks for anytime in between.

The Lockyer Valley is the renowned food bowl of South East Queensland and jak & Mo take great pride in sourcing local fresh ingredients to add to their creations. This really is one of the charms of visiting the Lockyer Valley. We couldn't walk past the dessert window.

jak & Mo are open as follows: Mon - Fri   7.00am to 4pm
        Sat   7.00am to 2pm

Good coffee and great country hospitality.

TIP: Always trust the locals.
