There is something about birthdays that just begs for celebration no matter what age you are. The deal with my friends, is we take each other out on birthdays, give a little gift and only have drinks at Christmas. So when my birthday came around this year, I chose my favourite local restaurant. Jah Bar Dee Why not only enjoys spectacular views of the Beach, it also offers a great range of light tapas to more substantial selections on their menu. Or if you prefer to just chill and chat, it's also the perfect location to down a few glasses of wine, beer or cocktails.

Another bonus with Jah Bar is you can more or less eat anytime you like especially on weekends. No need to worry that you missed the breakfast, lunch or dinner period. This is ideal for me on the weekends. I hate being on a set schedule, especially after a pressured working week.
It was a lovely sunny winter's day in July. We arrived around 3.00pm and managed to find a nice table outside overlooking the beachfront. In winter, Jah Bar has there outside heaters on and blankets are available if you want to get even cosier. At first glance of the menu, we thought to share a couple of dishes and a glass of wine. Then the waiter mentioned the option to choose a Set menu. The $45 set menu includes nine tapas dishes, a dessert and also a glass of Cava (Sparkling Wine). Considering the price of each tapas on their own, this option sounded like great value. We settled in for an afternoon of leisurely eating and drinking.

Out came our Cava Aperitif, Cava (sparkling wine) with Jamon Iberico with a naughty side of Margaritas.

Next were the Fish Tacos (Hiramasa kingfish cured in tequila, lime and rock salt. onion jam, avocado salsa, coriander) This tapas dish is my one of my favourites on the menu. The Hiramas King fish is sashmi grade and mixed with the lime and tequila sauce, is pure heaven in each bite.

Cider Glazed Chorizo (Chorizo pickled in apple cider and cooked down to a sticky glaze served with almond picada, parsley and lemon). So tasty!
Another favourite tapas is Croquetas (Mushroom & Truffle Croquetas filled with truffled pecorino and served with truffle aioli) You won't be able to resist a few appreciative murmurs of delight at their delicious warm gooey centres.
Scallop and Pork Cheek (pan-fried Harvey Bay scallops, sweet corn, Jamon crisps slow roasted pork cheek) I have to admit always ordering this each time I visit Jah Bar. The taste of just cooked scallops with the mouthwatering juices of the pork cheek is a winning combination.
Albondigas (pan roasted pork and chicken meatballs with pine nuts and spicy tomato sauce) These juicy meatballs were gobbled down too quickly to take a good photo. To be honest, at the time I wasn't planning to do a review, but to just sit back and devour the food. But from habit, I couldn't resist a few photos as the food looked so good. We managed another round of cocktails, the famous Jah Bar $10 Margaritas (El Jimador tequila, fresh squeezed lime, triple sec). They taste as good as they look!
I can't fault Jah Bar Dee Why. Every time I visit, I totally enjoy every morsel of food, drinks, the exceptional service and stunning view. I totally recommend it any time of the week. The breakfasts are amazing too!
