For many of us, Alanis Morissette's songs used to be the soundtrack of our teenagehood: heartbreaks, betrayals, love, life, frustrations, mistakes and everything in between, you name it. Her album Jagged Little Pill , released in June 1995, was a worldwide success and the voice of a whole generation. She was like this best friend or the big sister who gets you and puts words on your feelings with her raw and powerful lyrics visiting a range of emotions we all experienced in our youth... probably because at the time she wrote the album she was only 21, changing direction and trying to find herself as an artist. But the beauty about her music is that more than 25 years after, despite time has passed and we are all grown-ups now, her rock and poetic spirit still resonates and makes us sing along, even shout our deepest thoughts and embrace the memories attached to those songs because at the end of the day, it is brutally honest and yes, life can be at times a 'jagged little pill' to swallow; You cry you learn, you lose, you learn - but what it all comes down to, is that everything's gonna be 'fine, fine, fine'!

So don't be surprised if I felt 'Head Over Feet' for Alanis Morissette's tribute concert Jagged Little Pill on Friday, April 23 at the GOV. I couldn't help it and it's all ' That 90s Show ' fault! Imagine 500 people reunited to dance and sing along at a time when dancefloors and concerts venues are only coming to life again - it was almost unreal. As I'm here to remind you, all the mess that COVID-19 left when it blew away, so what a beautiful and powerful moment to see that many people present to enjoy one of the greatest albums of all time!

But when it comes to Alanis Morissette and Jagged Little Pill topping the charts in thirteen countries, winning five Grammys and ranking 69 by Rolling Stone magazine, there are huge expectations. Did I hear the word…perfect?! Who is going to impersonate Alanis? Will the music be as powerful? Will it re-create this intimate instant connection? Will the songs still resonate? Remember... 'Try a little harder, you've got to measure up!'

And 'what it all comes down' to is ' That 90's Show 's got it all figured out just yet 'cause it's got some of Adelaide's finest talents in its pocket! Featuring a range of fantastic musicians: Rachel Vidoni (lead vocals), Ben Whittington (vocals, guitar), Anthony Zillante (guitar), Lee Nash (bass), Russell James (keys), Hayden Ryan (drums), Zillah Bull (backing vocals), the show is the promise of a music trip on memory lane!

But before swallowing that jagged little pill, the show opens with a set of 90s favourites and it warms the room instantly; it is definitely building the excitement for what's to come! The band is really great, a powerhouse of sounds and energy, the repertoire works beautifully, and the dancefloor is already packed! To add drama to the experience, there are lightning effects and projections: Clueless, My So Called Life, Dawson Creek, Heartbreak High, Friends…. We have successfully landed in the 90s era!

People are definitely enjoying the night and it feels like ages I haven't seen a crowd that excited, so when the longing for Alanis has built up and the show kicks in, all the eyes are turned on the stage when a brunette enters the scene with beautiful long hair, flair jeans, cool fur coat, rock t-shirt! Everyone has been waiting for this moment and as she hits the first notes, the audience is almost caught by surprise! Like Alanis, she's got the style, the attitude, the voice, the moves, the versatility. You can tell Rachel Vidoni (lead singer) put a lot of work and heart in this performance, interacting with the audience, singing, playing the guitar and harmonica. Furthermore, the quality and chemistry between the different musicians on the stage is incredible and definitely allows her to rise and shine!

It is a beautiful melting pot of rock sounds: Rachel's voice is powerful and vibrant, the guitar and drums bring an amazing and deep energy sweetened somewhat by the keys and enhanced by the bass.

The crowd is ecstatic, each song of the album is full of meanings and memories, beautifully played and interpreted. It is amazing to watch each member of this 7 piece band performing and embracing the music. And you can see that everyone on stage is having a blast and loving each second of this wonderful show. But what strikes me the most is how powerful and brutally honest each song is and how people in the crowd react embracing each one of them. It is almost a spiritual experience watching people singing along, knowing every little word and every single note!

Jagged Little Pill performed by ' That 90s Show ' is a must-see for anyone who loves Alanis Morissette, great rock music, wants to give voice to a range of feelings. It is the promise of a night filled with nostalgia, a magic moment that will make you smile, dance, sing, shout and probably break your voice on one of the greatest album of all times and with good reasons!
