Scrumptious German cuisine at Jagerstubn
Renowned for providing great value for money and its family-friendly atmosphere, Jagerstubn Restaurant, the in-house restaurant at Hubertus Country Club, is located at 205 Adams Road, Luddenham.

A gem of an eatery, Jagerstubn Restaurant offers a German and Austrian inspired Ala Carte Menu on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm; and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 10:00 pm. It also offers a Bistro Menu on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12 noon to 8:30 pm; and on Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm.

It is said that quality is more important than quantity, but Jagerstubn attests to the fact that both quality and quantity make for very satisfied diners.

Be warned though. With delectable dishes and princely portions, you may not finish your entire meal. I always take food home despite promising myself that I'll polish off my meal and make it to the finish line: dessert.

During our most recent visit to the restaurant, my husband, mother-in-law and I ordered a range of dishes and shared them between the three of us. This worked out wonderfully because I was able to step out of my comfort zone and sample meals I had not previously tried.

To begin with, we each ordered a serve of our favourite entrée - Langosh. Langosh is a Hungarian deep fried flat bread. Served here with a subtle garlic glaze and a generous dollop of sour cream, it's crunchy on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Remember: the helpings are generous. You will not be disappointed. With four large pieces, each portion can easily serve two or three people. Perhaps we were over-zealous ordering three serves, but you'll understand once you've tried this tasty treat.

The Langosh at Jagerstubn is by far the best garlic type bread I have ever eaten

For the main meal we ordered three dishes: the Szegedina goulasch, the Paprika chicken, and the famous Gypsy platter.

The Szegedina goulasch, pictured below, is a Hungarian-style slow braised pork strew. Cooked with sauerkraut and fried potatoes, it is served with a dash of sour cream. This dish is mouth watering. The pork is beautifully cooked and melts in the mouth. The potato provides the dish with a starchy hit, and the full-bodied gravy is ideal for mopping up with bread.

Typically, I'm not a fan of goulash but this dish is delish

The Paprika huhn, or Paprika chicken, is a sautéed chicken breast fillet served in a subtle paprika sauce. Like the pork, the chicken breast is well cooked. It is served with crispy fried onions and spaetzle (traditional German dumplings). Yummy!

Cooked to perfection, the paprika chicken is an absolute delight. So too are the fried onions and German dumplings with which the dish is served

And last, but certainly not least, my absolute favourite: the Gypsy platter. It's a mammoth meal choc full of variety. It consists of one chicken schnitzel, one pork schnitzel, two deliciously crumbed mushrooms, one kransky (with a cheesy centre), fried potatoes, and a mixed salad made up of four salad types: beetroot, cabbage, red capsicum, and potato. It's big, it's colourful, and it tastes superb. I highly recommend the Gypsy platter to everyone and anyone visiting the restaurant.

The pièce de résistance - the famous Gypsy platter - is an absolute must for any diner new to Jaberstubn

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) we were so full after our main meal that we couldn't even contemplate having dessert! Nonetheless, there is a scrumptious selection of crepes, apple strudel, gelato and crème brulee on offer, as well as a host of liqueur coffees and hot beverages. Cold drinks and beers can be ordered separately from the adjoining bar.

Jagerstubn at Hubertus Country Club is the go to restaurant for great German cuisine and friendly, professional service. For more information see Hubertus Country Club or call 4773-4100.

Bon appétit, or should I say Guten Appetit!

Absolutely huge meals. When our girls were younger they used to share a schnitzel meal between the two of them. Never been disappointed with the meals although did find it wiser to choose our desserts before we ordered as they are soooooo good and sometimes not there when we were ready to order dessert.
