Apparently I've been out of the loop, as I'd never heard of Jackies but it was a favourite in Bondi and now an equally busy eatery in Paddington. The reason why quickly becomes clear.

While on a busy road, you step into the private courtyard and into a secret world, tastefully put together. There's indoor and shady outdoor dining. The sandstone cellar and hip bar feel made me think I was in a hideaway in Paris, though I can't exactly explain why.

This restaurant specialises in some seriously tempting sushi options, and by the other diners around us, that is clearly the popular choice. As I was a little hungrier than normal, I opted for the equally enticing angel hair pasta, with prawns in a garlic and lemon juice sauce. It was light yet tasty, and delicious.

My friend went with the Salmon Takaki, and for an instant I regretted not going with a sushi option, as the salmon looked perfect. However, that soon passed when I tasted my own meal.

Unfortunately after the filling pasta dish, there was no room for dessert - and there are some seriously tempting offerings for those with a sweet tooth.

We savoured our tea and coffee in the relaxing setting, with no inclination to hurry, despite the full tables. You can't book but the good news is tables do seem to constantly turn over, so you shouldn't need to wait long.
