I was recently invited to join a couple at lunch at the JacarandaTree Cafe at 2/28 Blackburn Road, Blackburn. Telephone 9894 7652.

In any city there are roads that you might drive down every day. It's easy to become blasé about your knowledge of suburbs in and around your city, such as Melbourne. Blackburn Road is such a road. Busy during peak hours, and even in off peak periods, it is one of those roads that go through a number of suburbs all having their own special appeal to locals and visitors.

I'd heard about the in passing, so it was a great opportunity to visit when my friends invited me to have lunch with them.

The cafe sits in a small off the main road shopping centre, with ample parking. A pleasant little path leads from the parking area up to the cafe which is bright and airy. The day we went the cafe was full. It seems most people make a booking to ensure a seat, even at lunch time.

There is a small seating for those who prefer to eat outdoors under a covered umbrella. Host is Tony Edrisinha and we were welcomed very warmly by Wendy.

has a good selection of light snacks and cakes, although we ordered from the lunch menu.

My friend had garlic prawns (a hearty and flavoursome serving), while his wife had a light but filling plate of sundry items, including avocados. I chose the homemade chicken curry served on saffron rice which was delicious. The coffees were most enjoyable and the perfume from my early grey tea served in a small teapot complimented the curry and saffron rice.

The is open 7 days a week, Monday to Friday 7.00 a.m. through to 5.00 p.m. Sundays 20.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. It is fully licensed and BYO.
